What is Chi Nei Tsang?

A holistic approach to massage therapy of old Taoist Chinese origin. It integrates the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects to go to the very origin of the health problem. Concentrating on the abdomen, soft, deep and gentle touch trains the internal organs to work more efficiently and process emotional charges. It is very physically and emotionally satisfying. People feel very taken care of and touched. Helpful healing for many conditions and good preventive medicine.

What is Cranial Sacral Therapy?

Cranial Sacral Therapy evaluates and enhances the function of the cranial sacral body system. This physiological system is comprised of the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The practitioner contacts the movement of the membranes and cerebral spinal fluid with gentle touch to the cranium, spine and sacrum. With this gentle touch the practitioner contacts and stimulates the receiver’s own healing energy to effect needed change throughout the entire body. It releases restrictions in the cranial sacral system and improves functioning of the central nervous system. It generally gives people a sense of well-being and is deeply restful.  It helps people recognize their primary energetic signature, what gives them their life energy. Good preventive medicine.

What is Barefoot Shiatsu?

Barefoot Shiatsu is a wonderfully tonifying and relaxing form. The practitioner uses her feet to apply steady or rolling pressure to the receiver’s back, legs, arm, chest and abdomen. The foot pressure is applied with great care to the receiver’s acceptable level of comfort and therapeutic effect. Following the opening of the receiver’s tissue with the foot massage, specific acupressure points are stimulated with pressure from the practitioner’s thumb, fingers or sometimes a shiatsu point tool. This stimulation gives the body the necessary assistance for any correction the body/mind needs for healthy function. Head massage is usually included. The session ends with integrating and grounding contact, often on the receiver’s feet, sometimes the head. Also it is good preventive medicine.

To help you choose here are some ideas:

Chi Nei Tsang is very effective for digestive problems that affect the rest of the body. (Eg. Recurring headaches are often caused by digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, yeast infection, constipation and many more!)

Barefoot Shiatsu is great for general tonifying of all body functions. It’s also good for increased flexibility, joint and muscle repair from injury.

Cranial Sacral Work is helpful for deep relaxation. It is very effective for adjusting  the cranial bones following whiplash injury, dental work or birth trauma. (More examples of conditions it helps; Migraine headaches, TMJ, Central Nervous System disorders, orthopedic problems, spinal cord injuries).

Breath and sound, and movement. Good for everything! Deeply nourishing and fun!

Catherine A. Louisell, NMLMT #095 has been a massage therapist since 1981 and a movement educator and specialist since 1990. She has lived and practiced in the Santa Fe area since 1987.

It was Rolfing treatments that first got me thinking of the integration of body/mind. Although always a “mover” I was very tight! I was physically uncomfortable and even in pain at times. I felt I had to do something about it. First, I trained in massage which helped me open up and relax. Next I found Continuum. Because of its focus on fluid movement, I felt I had come home to that place where creativity and ease of movement exist. I began integrating its techniques into my work.

Catherine received her massage training at the Boulder School of Massage Therapy, Cranial Sacral Training with Hugh Milne at Esalen Institute, Chi Nei Tsang at White Cloud Institute right here in Santa Fe and Continuum Movement with founder Emilie Conrad in Santa Monica, CA. Cranial Sacral Work, Chi Nei Tsang and Barefoot Shiatsu are the main techniques used in her hands-on work. She employs breath and sound as well in her bodywork and movement sessions.
